The Old Mosque

The construction of the mosque was started in 1403 by Emir Suleyman Çelebi. It was completed in 1414 under Çelebi Sultan Mehmet. The architect is Haji Aladdin of Konya and the master is Omer ibn Ibrahim. This mosque was named Suleimaniya on the order of Padishah 1st Murat, and the name of the Grand Mosque was later approved. After the construction of The Mosque Wıth Three Balconıes, it was named “Cami-i Atik”, or Old Mosque.

The mosque is a square structure with nine domes, each 13 m in diameter, sitting on four legs and four walls. It falls into the group of multi-domed mosques. The middle row of domes, sorted in threes, is larger than the ones on the other. There is a lighthouse in the middle dome. The main building is made of cut stone and the last congregational place is made of cut stone and brick. There are ornaments in the sequins and walls with baroque features made later. Of the minarets on either side of the mosque, the mosque with the only honor on the left side, and the two honorable ones were later added to the mosque and are separate from the building. There is a fountain on the left side of the entrance to the mosque.
