ABU’L WAFA KONAWI

He is one of the famous walis in Istanbul. His name is Mustafa bin Ahmad. He is also known as Muslihuddin. He is also called, Sheikh Wafa, Abu’l Wafa, or ibn-ul Wafa. He was born in Konya. His date of birth is unknown. He passed away in 1490 (hijri 898) He learned about the sciences of Islamic law and the sciences of Islamic worship, from Sheikh Muslihuddin, who was the imam of the Debbaglar Mosque in Edirne. He made his progress in tasawwuf, with the guidance of Abdullatif Kudisi, who was one of the great people among the awliya (people whom Allahu ta’ala loves). His path in tasawwuf was appropriate to the methods of Suhrawardi [Shahab al-din Suhraward Born in 1144 (hijri 539). Passed away in 1234 (hijri 632)). His sohbats (the talks given by him or the conversations had with him) were very pleasant and everyone loved to see his face and listen to him. He was meticulous to the highest degree in obeying Islam. His words were very eloquent and clear, in a way that people listening could understand easily.

I COULDN’T OVERCOME A WOODEN DOOR!

Sultan Mehmed Khan the Conqueror, was also among the people who extremely loved him. The Conqueror of our istanbul one day came to visit him and wanted to meet with him. He refused. Mehmed Khan, returned with sadness while saying, “T overcame the walls of the Byzantine that were said to be insurmountable, but wasn’t successful in going inside through the wooden door of a sultan’s heart.” A couple drops of tears were seen in the eyes of the sultan. When hadrat Abu’l Wafa heard about this, he cried. When they asked him why he was crying, he said, “If he had gotten a taste of my sohbat, he would have given up being a sultan. My friendship, my sohbet, has led to a lot of people leaving their work half finished. I was afraid of being held accountable.”

HE HAD COVERED HIS FACE WITH HIS RIGHT HAND

Sultan Bayazid-i Wali II, also loved hadrat Abu’l Wafa very much. He was an admirer of his knowledge, and of the way he lived his life, Because of this, he was present at his salat al-janazah (funeral prayer). In fact, at that moment, he wanted to uncover his face from the shroud, to see it and get rid of some of the fire of yearning he had for him for a long time. When they uncovered his face from the shroud, they saw that hadrat Abu’l Wafa had covered his face with his right hand
