The waqf epitaph board mounted on the wall of Umurbey” Mosque reveals that this hamam, or public bath, was donated by Umur Bey to his mosque, prior to 1440. Umur Bey was the son of Kara Timurtash Pasha, one of the brothers in arms of Osman Gazi. During the reign of Murad II, Umur Bey, both a soldier and a scholar, was granted the rank of a vizier.
Umurbey” Hamam is a “single” hamam built with a rectangular plan. It consists of three main sections, the cool room (frigidarium), the warm room (tepidarium), and the hot room (caldarium).
As this hamam is one of those having a heating system, it disposes of a water reservoir and a “kulhan” (or boiler room/oven), which are situated at the end of the structure.
Until the 1990s, this structure was used as a hamam, and restored in 2008, since when it is used as TOFAŞ Art Gallery.
